ABO SCHOOL DISTRICT – STUDENT ILLNESS & INJURY POLICY
When a student becomes ill or is injured during the school day, they are required to report to the building office. In accordance with South Dakota Department of Health guidelines, the following procedures will be followed:
Fever
Students with a temperature of 100°F or higher will be sent home.
Students may return to school only after being fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
Vomiting, Diarrhea, or Unexplained Skin Conditions
Students experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, or unexplained rashes/skin eruptions must remain home.
They may return to school when they have been symptom-free for 24 hours.
Releasing a Student From School
Office staff must contact the student’s parent, guardian, or designated emergency contact before any student can be released from school.
A parent, guardian, or approved designee must pick up the student from school.
Parents/guardians are required to provide and maintain an up-to-date emergency contact number on file with the school office.
