The Humanity Launch is coming to Sully Buttes on Tuesday, October 29 to lead our high school and middle school students in retreats. Our K-12 staff participated in a Humanity Launch retreat during our regional fall in-service at Gettysburg as part one to this program. The Humanity Launch is a regional company that worked with over 14,000 students in Iowa, South Dakota, and Minnesota last year. The students will participate in The Humanity Launch’s “Be a Light” retreat where the focus is on making a difference in home, school, and community. The lessons include courage, vulnerability, you are not alone, overcoming our fears, learning how to listen and ask good questions, and how to treat yourself and others better. The students will hear stories about the themes and have time for group and one-on-one conversation. Activities are interspersed to keep the energy and pace fast moving and fun. We hope that you will strongly encourage your child to actively participate in their retreat. Dr. Gregg Talcott and Kim Bartling are life-long educators from South Dakota. They come from different scholastic backgrounds and experiences; yet, share one thing: a passion for inspiring and challenging educators and students. The Humanity Launch was created to serve that vision of building and maintaining positive school culture. Learn more about them at TheHumanityLaunch.com Parents and community members are welcome to attend any portion of either retreat.

Shoutout to the FFA Blue Jackets Program for the 6 jacket donations. Each student had to submit an application to be eligible for this program. Once submitted, the advisor must approve the application to continue forward. Thank you to the businesses and people, who have supported the Sully Buttes FFA Chapter!

Our 9th-12th grade Creative Art class did an incredible job creating these vibrant Alebrijes! Inspired by the work of Mexican artist Lourdes Villagomez, our students brought their own unique perspectives to life with these fantastical creatures. Check out Mrs. Tassler's website for more details on this project and the inspiring stories behind each Alebrije: https://sites.google.com/view/mrstassler/alebrijes

Science fruit or is it a science vegetable? 3rd graders were busy dissecting radishes, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, and celery as they are trying to see if the garden item had seeds inside them or not. If they have seeds, they are a "science fruit". Thank you Bob and Brenda Hyde for the fantastic items.

Members of the ABO school district as well as community members met with a team from the SD Statewide Family Engagement Center to do a research study and Family Friendly Walk Through of the school. The team then brainstormed ways to promote family engagement for our students. This is a cooperative effort, and continued follow-up will be held over the next 18 months.
