Our 4th and 5th graders dove into the world of our Artist of the Month, Keith Haring, this week! To capture his iconic style, we took things to the next level—literally. Using construction paper and cardboard, students created 3D "breakdancing" figures that jump right off the page! To finish them off, everyone channeled their inner Keith by filling every inch of space with doodles of their favorite things. Once we started drawing, we couldn’t stop! First semester the 5th Grade class had to write letters to someone in a profession they were interested in. We had students writing to musicians, lawyers, doctors, scientists, athletes, you name it. It was so fun to see who they chose, what field intrigued them, and hear their questions. Since mailing the letters we've had a handful of responses trickling in. We've received letters filled with great advice, books on game fish and parks, post cards with kind notes from famous singers, and today a box full of all things "astronomy" from SBHS alumni Shelbi Hostler Schimpf. 5th grader Charles Rausch wrote Shelbi inquiring about her career with NASA and the Center for Astrophysics, Harvard and Smithsonian. Shelbi not only replied with a very informative letter, but supplied a great deal of "goodies" for the whole class. Thank you from the 5th Grade class, Shelbi, for your time and effort on this--everyone was in awe!✨💫 It really is GREAT to be a Sully Buttes Charger!!💜💛
